The Smuggler's Ring

Wood species: leadwood

Large Leadwood trees are unusual and are rarely found living. This large ringed slab came from a tree that grew in Zimbabwe. The real curiosity is the hollowed middle. No one knows how this hollow formed and how it was possible that it weathered without damaging the rest of the trunk. This table is called The Smuggler’s Ring because its wood was carried out by smugglers to the artisans where it was swapped for alcohol and engine fuel. These paths, originally created by elephants, cut across dry riverbeds, and are incorporated into the table’s design.

Unique hand carved table made of rare leadwood type wood.
